The Vee Bee Consistometer consists of a vibrating table, a cylindrical container (slump cone), and a graduated rod. The apparatus is designed to measure the time required for concrete to change its shape under vibration, known as the "Vee Bee time," which is directly related to the concrete's workability. The Vebe test (also called the Vee-Bee test) allows the for the evaluation of freshly mixed concrete, measuring its workability by determining the characteristics of mobility and compactibility. The principle of the test is to change the shape of the concrete and measure the remolding in seconds.Â
Freshly mixed concrete is placed into the slump cone, which is positioned on the vibrating table of the Vee Bee Consistometer. The cone is then lifted vertically, allowing the concrete to settle. The vibrating table is switched on, and the graduated rod, which is attached to a transparent disc, is used to measure the time it takes for the concrete to consolidate under vibration. This time is recorded as the Vee Bee time, measured in seconds.The Vee Bee Consistometer provides a more precise measurement of workability than other methods, such as the slump test. It's particularly useful for testing stiff concrete mixes that may not yield accurate results with standard slump tests. The Vee Bee test is also valuable in situations where the concrete needs to be transported over long distances, or when it must flow through intricate forms or around dense reinforcement.
