Nicholson's Hydrometer, developed by William Nicholson in the late 18th century, is an instrument used to measure the specific gravity (relative density) of liquids. A metal body shaped like a cylinder or disk, designed to float in the liquid under examination.
Two pans or platforms attached to the body
The lower pan is submerged in the liquid and used to hold small weights or samples.
The upper pan remains above the surface and is used to hold additional weights during the testing process.
