A Boss head is one of the three things that hold a Florence flask or Conical flask on a retort stand. A Boss head is used to keep the clamp in place so if you put a glass holder in between the clamp it doesn't fall/break. The primary use of a boss head is to hold clamps in place on a retort stand. This is essential for securing glassware such as burettes, condensers, and flasks during experiments.
